Mister Art Tatum

Music

You must know his name –
So I won’t pretend to introduce you to this totally brilliant artist – among the masters of piano and jazz, there is, of course, Mister Art Tatum. Monsieur Art Tatum.

Obviously, I’m not going to offer you Art Tatum on a stage – I’m not that crazy.

No, it’s just a reminder of a great pianist, great jazz musician, great man.

Of these men who have magic in their fingers, enchantment in their brains and who manage like that, with their hands, their instrument and their smile to make us travel in the so strange world of human emotions.

The first extract is “pure” raw, and you will find the “sound of before”, with all its imperfections – and all its charm (yes we speak about charm when the things are imperfect – we are in the positive attitude) – Nevertheless, the cracklings of vinyls, that has class:

The sound is better for the second excerpt – and since I happen to be adorable, it’s the whole album to dream about dancing in the dark :

And frankly, right now, if you don’t dream of listening to Art Tatum in a little corner of a jazz cellar like there are in Paris, with a little glass of whatever you want on the coffee table, and next to you who you love, I don’t understand. You have to come to Paris to our jazz clubs, they still exist.

well, all right, the day has been very very long, I have anvils in my head… so this is my famous post: a little music together to close the eyes while dreaming ?

And then what do you want me to say? This man doesn’t need to be talked about – he needs to be listened to. So let’s listen a little bit more :

You can tell I’m tired or not? – no… not so much…. – but the anvils in my head, it weighs a lot, I’m going to sink like a child.
Have a nice night

  1. “Of these men who have magic in their fingers, enchantment in their brains and who manage like that, with their hands, their instrument and their smile to make us travel in the so strange world of human emotions.”

That’s beautifully put for a fantastic man in the world of jazz.
