I’ve been following the big battle between Epic Games and Apple for some time now.
You’ve probably at least heard about it.
Epic Games – they’re aptly named to lead this battle – is the video game company I often talk about, the one that first, a few months after I started talking about it, decided to put artists in its flagship game: Fortnite. –I’m not saying that they took the idea away from me, I’m not that crazy: I’m just saying that it’s a logical idea when you’re wondering how to develop video games.
The idea worked by “the fire of God“.
These are people who don’t seem to be used to worrying about limits.
So they also transgressed the limits that bound them to Apple.
This is about money.
The major obstacle in developing a game – and its DLC – is obviously money.
The cheaper it is – the more the game develops.
Yes, but when the price is increased by a very small tax – from Apple in this case – you lose players.
So Epic developed a payment system that bypassed Apple’s rule.
And there – we’ve all heard about the problem.
Apple threatened.
Epic didn’t give in.
They even laughed by (coincidentally) bringing out an evil apple-headed character – just at the right time – they’re too good at Epic.
And on top of that, they gave themselves the luxury of making a free skin :

That meant they had a plan for the future.
There are a lot of articles explaining that Epic is about to crack – since Apple has blocked it and prevents its games from running on iOs – and all the games developed with Epic Game’s source programs.
For those of you who don’t know what that means: Os are the two letters that name the interface between your computer device and the programs (apps) you install.
iOs is the interface created by Apple for its products.
Those who don’t have Apple products have Android for their phones.
And for computers, add Windows and Linux.
Without this Os, not much will happen on your device – unless you’re a crack at it, no doubt.
So Epic has deliberately chosen to deprive itself of all Apple customers.
Apple played a game: I won’t lose anyone, my customers are not all “Epic-life”.
And I will win the battle.
It’s turning sour.
Epic takes out old Apple ad and hijacks it.
Above all, Epic takes on the beautiful role: the little good guys against the bad guys, even more badass than Palpatine.
And today, the rest is happening.
Russia enters the game.
Isn’t that funny ?
What are the Russians doing? They save people of course. They think of the little people, of those who have nothing – or so little.
And they are proposing a law that would force Apple and Google to lower their taxes to 20% – and to donate part of their earnings to a training fund for computer scientists – people who could potentially be able to bend the rules (again!).
Meanwhile, many Japanese game developers have committed to Epic (at least by declaration of intent). And by the way, Apple’s competitors don’t seem too upset.
And since boredom never comes alone, here’s a whole nice world of game creators protesting against Apple’s censorship – who will decide whether or not the app will pass and whether it should be transformed: no bathing suit, no sexualization….
I’m not going to predict the end of the battle.
But it’s interesting for the Altair Twin side – because we’ll have to go through the O.S. to make AT accessible.
Above all – and these numbers are not coming out in the open – there must be something behind all this. Try to make me believe that Epic went on a suicide war for the good of the world.
What I’d like to know is what their weapons and their reserves are that made them think: it’s okay, we can launch the attack.
But no, they’re not dumb – you don’t play Apple by being dumb. Or you didn’t play for long.
Next to follow.
Featured Image : Lord of the Rings – Aragorn’s sword. Do you remember the sword of Aragorn in the video game The Two Towers (EA Games) – one of the first 3D RPGs? It would charge and shine when you could wait. And then… bam, a fury this weapon. I loved it.
