Music – Bossa Nova
I’m sure you know this music – you can’t not know it.
I am much less sure that you know João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira – more simply : João Gilberto
He is a guitarist, but he didn’t take any courses in any school. He listened to the music of his neighbor.
When he was 18, he went to Bahia to try his luck. His luck did not smile.
He left, he isolated himself, he perfected his art, he wanted a sound from the guitar and he didn’t stop until he found that sound, “his” sound.
This sound, you know it now – a little – it was called Bossa Nova. It is above all a touch of the strings, a very strange softness – about his art, he was very modest.
From the moment he met Stan Getz, he became an essential figure – and that’s why I’m sure you know his music.
Okay, maybe you didn’t know the first two – but this one, impossible not to recognize :
This artist died recently.
But that does not mean that his music has gone with him.
On the contrary.
A month of tribute to Bossa Nova would allow to put back these sweet melodies in all the hearts which would pass by there

I always loved that song Bossa Nova. I did not hear that he had passed away but his music will always be with us.

He passed away in 2019 – but we were all swept up in the pandemic like chaff. What remains of him is his music – and his music is so beautiful
